A new chapter in inclusive housing has arrived on the Sunshine Coast with the completion of Maroochydore’s first purpose-built Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) apartment development. Delivered by Apollo SDA in collaboration with Enliven Housing and BADGE Constructions, and designed by Raunik Design Group, this project marks an important step forward in addressing the growing need for high-quality housing specifically designed for people living with disability.
Located at 69 Parker Street, Maroochydore, the development introduces six thoughtfully designed SDA apartments that support independence, accessibility, and community connection. As the first development of its kind in Maroochydore, it represents a significant milestone for the region’s disability housing landscape.

Meeting the Growing Need for Specialist Disability Housing
In Australia, and particularly in rapidly growing regions like the Sunshine Coast, there is a significant shortage of appropriate housing for people living with disability. Specialist Disability Accommodation plays a critical role in supporting individuals with high support needs, enabling them to live safely and independently in homes specifically designed to accommodate their requirements.
This development helps address that shortage by increasing the supply of high-quality SDA housing in the Maroochydore electorate. By providing purpose-built homes designed to meet the needs of residents, the project contributes to improving housing options and expanding opportunities for people with disability to live within their communities rather than being forced to relocate away from family, support networks, and familiar environments.
A Location Designed for Connection and Lifestyle
One of the key advantages of the Maroochydore SDA apartments is their exceptional location. Situated just minutes from the Sunshine Coast’s beautiful beaches, the development offers residents the opportunity to enjoy one of Australia’s most desirable coastal lifestyles.
The apartments are also conveniently located close to local shops, cafes, medical services, public transport, and community facilities, ensuring residents can easily access everyday amenities and remain connected to the vibrant Maroochydore community.
Access to outdoor spaces, recreational areas, and essential services is an important factor in improving quality of life for people living with disability, and this location provides exactly that.
Thoughtfully Designed for Independence
Designed by Raunik Design Group, each of the six apartments has been purpose-built to meet SDA design standards, ensuring the homes provide the accessibility, safety, and functionality required by residents with higher support needs.

The apartments include a range of carefully considered features designed to enhance both independence and day-to-day living, including:
- Adjustable benchtops to support flexible kitchen use
- Side-opening ovens for safer and easier access
- Oversized bedrooms with fully accessible ensuites to allow ease of movement and comfort
- Private patios providing personal outdoor space for each resident
In addition, residents have access to a shared community magnesium salt pool, creating an opportunity for relaxation, wellbeing, and social connection within the development.
The architectural approach prioritises independence and comfort, allowing residents to move freely and confidently throughout their homes, while also supporting the delivery of care where required, without compromising privacy or dignity.

Supporting Inclusive Communities
Beyond the physical design of the apartments, the project represents a broader commitment to building more inclusive communities. The development will be home to a diverse group of tenants, including individuals who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
Providing culturally inclusive housing pathways is an important step toward ensuring that all Australians, including First Nations people living with disability, have access to safe, high-quality accommodation that supports their wellbeing and independence.
A Step Forward for the Sunshine Coast
The Maroochydore SDA development demonstrates what is possible when organisations collaborate to respond to community needs. Through the partnership between Apollo SDA, Enliven Housing, BADGE Constructions, and Raunik Design Group, the project delivers not just housing, but the opportunity for people with disability to live independently, remain connected to their communities, and enjoy the lifestyle the Sunshine Coast is known for.
As the first SDA apartment development of its kind in Maroochydore, it sets an important precedent and highlights the ongoing need for more specialist disability housing across the region.
With demand continuing to grow, developments like this are a vital step toward ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, has access to safe, appropriate, and well-located housing within the communities they call home.
